University of Richmond

Applying to medical school and other health professional programs can be nerve-wracking. Students who want to go into health care choose their undergraduate institution carefully because they know that the right preparation is key to gaining acceptance to some of America’s most prestigious professional schools.

Increasingly, students interested in the sciences and healthcare are choosing the University of Richmond because of its strong science programs and resources available to pre-health students. The School of Arts & Sciences launched the Pre-Health Studies Program to provide students with the guidance, support, academic preparation and clinical experiences they need to be successful applicants to health professional schools.

The program offers a combination of benefits students won’t find anywhere else:

  • A medical school acceptance rate for first-time applicants of 85 percent (2003-2007), compared to the national average of 51 percent.  For the 2007 graduating class, 25 out of 26 students who applied to medical school were accepted
  • A year-long MCAT preparation course team-taught by full-time professors
  • A medical humanities minor that equips students to become better doctors, not just better medical students
  • Study abroad programs specifically geared toward pre-health students so they can receive an international education without falling behind in their science curriculum
  • A program that welcomes all students from all disciplines, not just students majoring in the sciences
