4U-Mentorship
Through a partnership between the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia, this unique program pairs pre-medical students with fourth year medical students who serve as mentors. Students meet with their mentors in the MCV hospitals, receiving advice on the medical school application process, life as a medical student, residency considerations and post-graduate pursuits. In addition, the mentor teaches his or her apprentice the basic clinical approach to patients. Richmond students complete the program with an understanding of what medical school and their subsequent career will entail.
EMT Training
Richmond offers an EMT-basic training class each spring semester. Students are eligible to take the Virginia certification exam at the conclusion of the course. After becoming certified, students can volunteer with the University of Richmond’s on-campus rescue service, SAVERS, or with a local rescue squad. Students find that the EMT course and subsequent work is an excellent way to gain hands-on experience in medicine.
